Here’s what we know so far!
At the moment, all children aged 3 and above are entitled to 15 hours Funding. Some three year olds are entitled to 30 hours funding (dependant on circumstances) and some two year olds attract funding too.
The Government have announced the biggest extension to Early Years Funding that we have seen for years. What does this mean for your family?
- To start with, in Summer 2024, the 15 hours funding is being offered for 2 year olds of working parents. This begins in the term after the child’s 2nd birthday.
- Then, in Autumn 2024, 9 month olds of working parents (the term after the child is 9 months old) will be eligible for 15 hours funding per week.
- Lastly, in Autumn 2025, this will increase to 30 hours funding for children who are 9 months old, if they have working parents. Again, this starts in the term after the child is 9 months old.

Confirmation of the date that eligible working parents will be able to apply for their codes to gain access to 15 hours of childcare per week for two-year-olds from April
From 2 January 2024, eligible working parents with a child who turns two before 31st March, can apply via www.childcarechoices.gov.uk for their 15 hours funded childcare per week to start in April 2024.
You have until 31 March to apply for a code, with the best time being mid-January to the end of February, in case you need to provide further information to support your application.   We cannot help you if you fail to get your code in time. It’s super important that you access the government website and get your eligibility code for us!
To apply for a childcare code each parent needs to be working and earning the equivalent of 16 hours a week at national minimum/living wage and under £100,000 adjusted net income per year. This means that each parents need to earn from just over £8,600 per year to be eligible for 15 hours a week of childcare during term time.
