Christmas doesn’t start for me until I hear “Fairytale of New York.” It evokes such powerful childhood memories.
I love Christmas. I remember as a child, the thrill of getting ready for bed on Christmas Eve, excited that my Nan was staying over (that was always exciting) and smelling her sausage rolls cooking in the kitchen.
My own children tell me that their favourite Christmas memories are the ones where we are playing silly games, or walking home from church on Christmas Eve, looking up to the sky to see if we could see Santa (Top Tip: aeroplane lights can be ‘mistaken’ for Rudolphs flashing nose!) Every Christmas, we would read “The Night Before Christmas” and I’m pretty sure I could still tell it from memory now!
These moments are the ones we remember. They are so simple yet so magical. It’s always the small moments that matter.
I hope that this Christmas is a time for you to watch your children develop their own memories of a special time with their families. Whether it’s crafting their first Christmas ornament, singing a holiday song, or listening wide-eyed to “The Night Before Christmas” before bed, I hope it is wonderful!
