World Book Day 2024

A love of reading is a wonderful thing for a child. Reading helps with everything – from imaginative play, to literacy and comprehension. School teachers say that those children who read every day are significantly better off than those who don’t.

Today at Polka Dot Farm we celebrated a love for our favourite books. We shared our personal favourites and enjoyed hearing about the childrens favourites too.

Do you have a favourite book to read with your children? Do you have a stand out story from your own childhood that takes you back?

For me, it was The Faraway Tree. Enid Blyton was my heroine. I consumed all her books like my life depended on it. The Wishing Chair, Mallory Towers, The Twins at St Clares – I loved them all. Maybe it was losing myself in the fantasy worlds, but I have such fond memories of reading as a child.

Nowadays I still love to curl up with a book. I’m a massive fan of Richard & Judy’s Book Club books which range from Thrillers to Love Stories. As a parent, I think it’s so important for my children to see my reading to encourage them to do the same.

What are you reading right now? Let me know! I love a book recommendation!
